Gift Salt with a Story
The custom of gifting salt has a long tradition.
Apart from its practical use, salt carries great symbolic value as a gift.
Giving salt as a house-warming present or gifting a newly married couple conveys a message of abundance, fertility and prosperity.
A gift of salt signifies trust between you and the person you’re giving it to, it’s a way of saying ‘may your life always have flavour’ and also expresses the hope that your friendship will endure and be preserved, the way salt endures and preserves.

Salt is an unusual gift – and one to be treasured. It may seem very ordinary but the truth is unrefined, natural salt is quite rare and not nearly as plentiful and available as processed table salt.
Give the Gift of Health from Nature
Oryx Desert Salt is 100% pure, sun-dried and natural, harvested in the remote Kalahari Desert from pristine underground springs flowing through Dwyka rock 300 million years old. It’s microplastic-free at source and because it’s unrefined and free from chemical additives, it retains all its naturally balanced vital minerals and trace elements – a gift of good health.
It’s a gift straight from Nature – we’ve just wrapped it for you.

Give a Gift that Takes Care of the Earth (and your Budget)
Using a ceramic grinder mechanism means you don’t risk grinding worn-down plastic into your food. Our ceramic grinder heads are so long-lasting, each grinder can be refilled up to 20 times or more. If you refill, you’ll not only be reducing waste, you’ll be saving on costs: the more often you refill your grinder, the more you save.
So don’t throw away our grinders!
If you give the gift of a grinder plus a refill box, you’ll also be passing on the gift of #RefillNotLandfill.

Give the Gift that Gives Back
Our 100% cotton drawstring bags are made by a local women’s group and our Chilli Salt uses chillies that are home grown, hand-harvested and dried under the African sun by Gogos (grandmothers) in informal settlement home and community gardens in collaboration with @BackyardFarmsAfrica - a local, social-upliftment enterprise.

We give a percentage of monthly turnover to the Khomani San and Mier communities who own !Xaus Lodge in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the Kalahari Desert. We’ve also partnered with regenerative and rewilding organisation Project Biome.
That means, whenever you choose Oryx Desert Salt, you’re also giving back.

Give the Gift of Connection
One of salt’s most unseen gifts is the way it connects us to each other. Wherever there is conviviality and social warmth as people come together to share food, think how we all touch and are touched by the salt our hands pass around the table.

Salt may be very ordinary and every day. But when you give Oryx Desert Salt as a gift, you’re also giving the gift of the story behind it that makes it unique.
Give a gift beyond the ordinary.
